I'd like to be able to take notes from any device, and also to be able to access them via the web, if I'm at an unfamiliar computer. That's not an exaggeration, it's probably low by a bit. There are many titles, between the Apple app store, the github projects, and the commercial/startup Evernote wannabees, I count over 200. I have been searching for a sane "notes" application for years at this point. If you have multiple people using the the archive (my family, for instance), then each person would get their own folder in that as needed.
I believe that notes (and clippings would count as such) belong in /Documents, in a subfolder something like "Notes & memos". I know people on this sub advise saving everything locally and not relying on other software, but how would that work with online articles (in terms of formatting etc)? What I like most about Evernote is its tag viewer, the panel listing all the notes I have, and the preview panel, so I'm not quite sure where to find something similar. So, I'd like to know what would be good alternatives to Evernote as a system, particularly with "clipping" articles directly from the web and saving them locally on your computer. On the other hand it would really suck to lose all my data because of shoddy software.
However I've only just learned that Evernote is not the most secure data collection format, which kinda sucks because I've been using it for a while and I really like how it works.
Just discovered this sub, and am looking to properly curate (and hoard) my collection of articles.Ĭurrently, I use Evernote Web Clipper to save interesting articles found online onto my Evernote account where I sort them with tags.
